About Esther

Esther Snow has worked in the visual arts for over twenty years. Originally from Arizona, she now resides near Chicago, Illinois. Her work has been published in several small magazines in addition to a book entitled Images: Tucson at the Millennium, which is part of a Special Collection at the University of Arizona Library. She has displayed her artwork throughout Arizona and other parts of the United States.

She began in community television at Access Tucson where she produced, directed and operated video cameras for numerous local shows such as Mount Graham Sacred Run and Science Gladiators 2000. She took a photography course in 1998 at Pima Community College, and this medium has been a passion ever since. Having years experience with film cameras and darkroom printing, she is now fully digital. Esther also prints, mattes and frames her own work.

At heart, Esther is an artist. Her favorite and most prolific work is portraiture. Capturing the honesty of how people interact with each other and their environment is an important element in her work. This aspect of her photography manifests itself as more candid and documentary rather than posed and formal. In her wedding and portrait photography, Esther enjoys catching the joy, timidness, excitement and general character before one is aware that their picture is being taken. Therefore, there is no time to change one’s demeanor for the camera.

Along with photography, Esther Snow is a mother of two girls, Greta and Heidi, ages 12 and 9. She has a Bachelors in Spanish, enjoys hiking, working on bicycles, traveling, reading, and very loud music while drinking coffee.
